Domino Effect (my mothers story)

She knew she hated him
When his fist turned the lights off in her mind
"He's crazy," her heart hissed in between astonished
Beats.
Where his voice went
Blood and blows followed
Always said he believed in giving 100 percent

There were few signs
Outbursts were rare
Now he wanted to fight
Drag her hundred pound ass out in the street
Screams doubled as gunshots
To the ears of girls who once believed in love
Like she does still-
So she's surprised at the intensity of her rage
At his rage
While the babies stand in the doorway and SCREAM
But God has turned the music way up
And she's got to make a MOVE!
He says; pushing her into the wall
When she looks so confused
It turns him on
Where will she go with blackened eyes
And split lips?
It no longer matters

It's only important she
Collect her wits, blots the blood
And tend her babies

Before strength becomes a foreign language
And violence, the only tongues she knows

She knew love wasn't supposed to be like this for her babies.
She won't forget.
