Younger Players

I went to see my parents today,
ate lunch and realised not much had changed,
went through my old room, old drawers,
photographs of forgotten moments, forgotten events
it pains me how few faces I can identify.
My collection of wallets,
proof that no one has a clue
what to give a young teenager for his birthday.
Scraps of paper bearing phone numbers
which no longer have a pleasing ebb and flow,
beneath names I have no face for.

and buried under everything else..

every love letter I've ever received,
all decorated with the brightly coloured ink
favoured by teenage girls, with cute smiles
still too young to play the game proficiently.
