You heard me, when I said those words, never to be called back, impossible to unsay, and while you act as if we can beat this thing, you lie to yourself every time you say "we". Once, we were powerful--- years ago, something to be reckoned with, impossible to divide--- and then you let me go, and still pretended that nothing had changed. But your eyes betrayed before your words could, and you turned from me till i knew the back of your head better than your face. Not a kiss unless I asked--- so I stopped asking. And three years passed till my lips forgot that use. Never an I love you that didn't seem forced, so I stopped asking. And four years passed and my heart knew that silence for a death. So let us end this, and be done. I will wish you well, for what we have known--- but don't hate me for saying aloud what we both have known so long--- there is no we in this house, and now there never will be. |
