They say that love is blind and so I found it's true last night I looked so terrible yet I looked real good to you My hair was just a mess hanging in my face I was wearing this queer dress with glitter every place My feet were shod in sneakers my slip was hanging low I could have passed for Raggedy Anne some rag doll in a show One eye was smeared with tar paint where I had rubbed my face My liner dragged across my lid mascara every place My teeth were needing brushing My eyes were drooping peeps yawning and a stretching deprived of last nights sleep Talk about a mess as we sat outside the mall you acted like you couldn't see no, you couldn't see at all You didn't see the smudges nor the funky, punky dress you didn't even notice I was totally a mess You looked into my eyes these puffy half wide lids and what you saw, were bedroom eyes you acted like a kid yes, a kid who found some candy all fancy and all new within my eyes you saw a dream kept entirely for you You chose this magic moment so totally unplanned To ask the fatal question the ring held in your hand There was no music playing no magic candlelight no atmosphere of romance an ordinary night Yet all the things provided thru the hand of the one above A full moon filled with majesty that shone upon our love The reflection it emitted upon my unkempt face was illusion of sheer beauty a forever type of place and so you popped the question with a tranced look in your eyes somehow I felt it coming I didn't feel surprised Your voice was rife with feeling as you asked me to share your life hiding the ring within your hand while requesting I be your wife Even the birds were cheering with their little chirping tune shadowed in the trees above aided by the moon Your words were choked and broken as you fought to hold the tears Your proposal poured with dignity reflective of your years You placed your hand in mind and squeezed with each new phrase I know that God was listening We both were so amazed Amazed at your sincerity your candid loving way enthralled by every word you spoke in your kind and gentle way You held my hand and finger as you slowly slipped the ring my heart was pounding faster the angels began to sing Motionless I watched you as you slipped the ring so slowly wiggling it as you went along an act so reverent and holy I watched your gentle eyes as you put the ring in place when you lifted them to look at me I saw the reflection of my face I knew in that sheer moment that I would always be the one to stand beside you in a life of ecstasy So lovers may be blind no doubt that this is true it's a wonderful kind of blindness when all I can see, is you....... ~ |
