Sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me as kids we chanted out this spell our affirmative defense plea whenever bullies called us names when we were over powered We hid behind this simple chant avoiding being cower'd It often worked to stop the fiend who'd viciously berate us who found a thrill in being mean with scornful jest parade us Then as we kids began to grow we learned a new defensive ignoring all verbal abuse we found, we could prevent it For many kids there was no fun if a quarrel didn't erupt if they couldn't get us angry they soon would give it up Now as adults we learned still more in dealing with our mate to turn the tide of angry fights the malice and the hate No longer is silence the answer nor from our feelings hide pretending that we aren't hurting and burying it all deep inside For this only makes the pain fester till it boils and bursts out in flames tis better to address and openly confess while peace of mind still remains Your mate may not know that they hurt you or what you have on your mind talking it out with your loved one then leave all the anger behind Rather than feel a bad feeling and allow it to ruin your day go to your honey this moment and throw all of your cares away Talk in sheer kindest gesture with the aim of clearing the air in humble curative manner let love follow you there For what served you well in your childhood no longer is something for you Facing your misunderstandings is what will help bring you through Love will have become stronger in spite of bumps on the way Through the opened doors of sharing love has found a better day ~ ~ The defenses of childhood...... don't work well in a loving relationship..... |
