Silhouette on the shade a shadow on the wall I see you kissing her you really have some gall It was only yesterday that you called me on the phone and asked me to be yours and here I stand alone And now I sit outside the house wherein you live watching you hold her the kisses that you give I guess I listened wrong or perhaps you only play you really didn't mean the words I heard you say And now you make a shadow with your new love that you hold in the dim lite of your candle as your bodies both enfold I sit here with my tears just rolling down my face I feel the foolish pain the shame of my disgrace I slowly walk away from your house and all we had I hang my head in pity I feel so awful sad And as I reach the corner I look up at the sign and much to my amazement I carefully read the line I thought I was on second street the road where you reside but what I see is seventh street it says so on the sign My heart is beating faster I'm choking back the tears I'm breaking out in laughter replacing all my fears How could I have ever doubted the things you said to me! How could I have ever believed what a shadow made me see! The silhouette on the shade was not that of my sweet but the shadow of two lovers who live on seventh street. ~ |
