untitled

The TELEPHONE rang,
waking me from sleep.
A voice on the other end,
tinged with PAIN.
Identified himself...
something about your death.
One appeared at my door,
DECEPTION on his face.
Did I REMEMBER what you
were doing earliler today?
Same as every Sunday,
you were being you,
driving RECKLESS,
burning RUBBER
at the OVAL track
at the edge of town.
My heartbreaking,
told your HARNESS failed,
the KINETIC energy
of your FREE SPIRIT
had taken flight one last time.
They said I had a SMILE
on my face, though, unsure why.
I could see you,
face void of TEARS,
with angel WINGS,
upon your shoulders,
riding on the back
of a mystical DRAGONFLY.
Through a SEA
of SHIMMERING BUBBLES
from the champagne
after your last win.
You were a rose among THORNS
in this great MINIATURE,
EVERGREEN GARDEN we call life.
Someone caught me as I FELL.
Wishing your being gone was
just a bad DREAM.
