What follows is a dissection of a pop song, Drops of Jupiter, by Train, and my interpretation of the meaning behind it applied to relationships. You were warned. :-) I think the songs about some guy letting the girl he loves go and explore and waiting for her. He's inspired by her journey and growth and changed outlook and wondering if he should have explored. He's also feeling a little threatened because he wonders if she still loves him and values him. Then he starts talking about things they shared and their relationship and their closeness. And he wonders if she's going to come back to him after all that she's found. So my question is -- how long do you wait for someone you love? Drops of Jupiter Now that she's back in the atmosphere >She's back in my life With drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey >Well Jupiter was a famous Roman god well known for sleeping around...and Drops of Jupiter - well...I'll let you look into the gutter.. She acts like summer and walks like rain >She's happy and growing like summer and comfortable wandering like rain Reminds me that there's time to change, hey, hey >She wasn't this way before and it's shows me I could make a change in my life Since the return from her stay on the moon >Since her trip exploring She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey, hey >She lisens to him Tell me did you sail across the sun >How was your trip? Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded >Did you see all the things out there to see And that heaven is overrated >Did you see that all the bright lights and lust are overrated? Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star >Did you have a short fling where you fell in love with deeply with someone cool One without a permanent scar >Someone not hurt before like me? And did you miss me while you were looking at yourself out there >Did you think of me while you were looking around? Now that she's back from that soul vacation Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, hey >Now that she's back and visiting her old haunts.. She checks out Mozart while she does tae-bo >She's changed for the better and grown Reminds me that there's time to grow, hey, hey >It inspires me. Now that she's back in the atmosphere >Now that she's back in my life I'm afraid that she might think of me as plain ol' Jane >I feel that she'll think I'm boring Told a story about a man who is too afraid to fly so he >I was too afraid to lose her or take a chance never did land >So I never got anywhere or got her Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet >Did the traveling and looking around fufill you and make you happy? Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day >Did you get to fufill your dreams? And head back to the Milky Way >And now come back home? And tell me, did Venus blow your mind >Venus was the female god of love...draw your own conclusions... Was it everything you wanted to find >Was your experience with the female god of love everything you were looking for? And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there >Did you miss me? Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken >Can you imagine life without my love, our pride, the deep fried chicken we like to eat together Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you're wrong >Can you imagine life without me backing you up Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone conversation >Can you imagine what it would have been like if we never had our first dance, or our romance that you put on hold but stayed fresh? Can you imagine what it would be like without our five hour conversations? The best soy latte that you ever had . . . and me >Can you imagine life without our talks? >Can you imagine life without me? >He's saying would you give me up for all that. Tell me did the wind sweep you off your feet Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day And head back toward the Milky Way >Do you want what you've become more than you want us? Have you come back to me? There's a very similar song from a woman's point of view called "Ordinary life" I think... |
