There's a thousand miles in front of me before I find my way home I'm flying down the freeway love won't leave me alone I left Houston thirty-six hours ago I saw her twenty four hours ago I thought of her twenty two seconds ago you might think the rest of the time was about sex I won't tell you you're wrong. I used to hate the country music stations the twang, the slang, and same old song. reused, recycled, and rebought. overwrought with the rope wrangling tanglin emotion full of trailer park romance, happenstance, darlin-just-give-me-one-more chance farmboy chases farmgirl and give it a whirl in state fair cotton candy baskin robbins world stunningly sweet and too sugary to stomach on an empty road sweating in the concrete heat. But once again I'm in a lone star state I'm traveling just to see her smiling I can see her smile when I smile and I can see her laugh when I laugh and I can see look of her looking at me I wink back Now I'm listening to George strait with a straight face "I just want to dance with you" I'm stomaching syrup in my craw with Tim McGraw "I like I love it, I want some more of it" and I'm feeling like I'm home in a lone star state "when you're with me, I feel like singing" I can't go looking for love I'm already there you might think I'm smiling solitary consignment but I'm comfy with my chosen assignment And if I'm created my own prison well words don't do the feeling justice but let's not forget Texas is a prison state And it's got the death penalty but I'd rather get a life sentence. That's what love is you know. Trust me - I'm guilty. |
