Near Miss

Is there something hidden
behind that quick smile and thoughtful gaze?
I sense a hint of something else,
but I'm not quite sure.
Those eyes gazing back
at me - I wonder
if you share my thoughts -
You couldn't.

After all, you're just minding your own business,
reading the paper in a coffee shop -
this one as good as the next.
Yet in the midst of my confusion
you continue to penetrate me
and invade my consciousness,
leaving me curious
to know your intentions.
