Folk Wisdom Correctly Applied

I was absolutely superstitious about it, you know.
Tiptoed around that sidewalk crack of a word...afraid to
break my heart.

Utimately, its been my fault every time.  I have never chosen wisely between "look before you leap" and "he who hesitates is lost."   Did the Bureau of Folk Wisdom miss those two contradictory pieces of advice?  Could someone clear up the confusion, because for some reason I always apply the latter in love, trying to capitalize on magic and moonlight.

Its easy when you dart in and out of similar college bars kissing boys with common names that start with "J" and compete against your girlfriends over phone numbers collected on scraps of napkin.

But I kissed you.  I heard once that whoever you kiss at midnight on New Year's Eve is the person you will spend the rest of that year with, you know.  I hope its true now because I could use a little certainty.

And hopefully its true that "you find it when you least expect it" and we will ride off into that mythical sunset of people who know.
