There is something about a relationship that ends in infidelity and betrayal that is completely disorienting. At fist you're stunned by the fact that it's over, and not because of anything as mundane as a fight or a difference of opinion. First you lose the person you had, and then you lose the one you thought you had. You end up with a head and a heart full of doubts, not even able to hang on to the memories because you're not sure they were ever valid. What about all those things you said and did together over the years? Which parts of your life with them were truthful, which were the lies? I cannot think of any other action that is so debilitating, and capable of robbing one of their strength. |
