A Lion's Anger

The dream breaks casually and then the truth sets in--
Poison in such a common form,
Heartbreak at it's worst.
It's such a small wound but it hurts way too much,
Like a paper cut that can't be seen.
But wounds become weapons as rusty defenses spring to life,
There's nothing that can be done that I can do--
Well that's not exactly correct, that's not exactly right,
I could wipe away your cold
Tears,
Tears from a faraway yesterday.
But it's been way to long, it's been a lifetime--
Maybe two
And no, I would never kick you
When you're down and bleeding,
Out for the count,
But neither should you expect me to kiss it& make it better.
Oh, you play the role of the injured party well--
Too well,
Because the act is too convincing to be true,
And besides that, I already know you and all your tricks.
You may crawl over broken glass hearts, but none of them
Are your own.
If you're smart you'll apologize,& regret your wicked ways--
But I doubt that you'll ever take that prompted pretty cue,
You may say that you're sorry, but for what?
For running scared?
For being afraid to feel?
Or for breaking my heart?
It isn't that I hate you,
But there's a lion's anger in my veins
If I was anything like you, I'd rip out your throat--
But only with my well placed, well constructed silence.
What is it that you expected to find here?
What made you go looking after all this time,
Searching, almost frantically, all the places you left behind,
Sifting through pieces of memories of the past--
Looking for what?
Forgiveness?
Peace?
The dust cloud's already settled, my friend
The destruction is still here, but can no longer be seen,
There is simply nothing left here,
There's nothing left here for you.
