I dreamt sweetly last night, cool and dark but elvis woke me up and i lay here alone in stuffy emptiness i wait for the albuquerque sunrise to scorch my skin once more shifting into fifth gear as i pass parched cacti along the roads, i think of you and when the noontime heat hangs heavy on my shoulders i miss you in my weariness i ache in the hollowness that fills me out i know you are there in the new mexico night - your touch in the breeze lets me know but I've forgotten the exact curve of your chin i cannot remember the slowness of your smile anymore and that is when i know you are gone, like the evasive rains you, too, fail to satiate my everlasting thirst leaving me exposed to the coarse desert sand slave to mirages and dreams. |
