Random Thoughts 13

I don't believe that some people, even those who try to be fairly honest with themselves, know when some things are over. I think they often go on believing, or trying to believe, even when the handwriting is not only on the wall but writ in letters larger than a house. If there is something you really care about and feel that you simply cannot survive without it, it is easy to cheat, easy to confuse your life with some moronic T.V. program, and convince yourself that what feels so wrong will eventually come right, probably right after the next commercial break. I suppose that without it's capacity for self deception, the human race would be an even crazier place than it is.
But sometimes the truth crashes through, and if you've consciously tried to think or dream your way around that truth, the results can be devastating. It's like being in the way of a tidal wave that roars not over but straight through a dike that was intended to stop it, destroying not just your beliefs, but a huge part of who you are.
