of hearts castanets

walking down a lonesome road
dust stirs at my feet
forming swirls of rust
dancing each its mote to air
as my steps pick a beat
pounding out in stuttered heat
prancing like a proverbial fool
yet finding in dust some cool
as the sun beats down
me a laughing clown
and you sitting a side
waiting forever on a ride
as i stroll on past
i offer a hand to rise
twin dust clouds compete
rising in this sordid street
as along a lonesome path
no longer alone
twisting to the beat
of hearts castanets
arm in arm we line dance our meet
dusts with swirls
from flickering feet
