july stretched lazily over the green trees and dry grass and the sun dropped below the hills to let the shadows melt accross the heated earth she flopped down in the hammock and found a little room next to his six feet and five inches maybe it wasn't meant to hold two it sagged beneath them, almost touching the ground she nestled her head against his broad shoulder a flutter of electricity in her chest she glanced accross the yard at her boyfriend he was busy playing ball with the younger boys he didn't even see her relax into the arms of another they lay still like statues for a long july minute no words, just long, careful, drawn breathing his fingers found her arm and ran the course of it delightful shivers left their mark on her "Nice night" he said in a slow drawl "I love you" she whispered to herself under a smile and nod she watched the light flicker slowly out of the trees listened to his heart beat and tried to calm her own she dreamed of how sweet his warm, soft, lips must be accross the lawn, the ballgame had stopped so must this moment she hugged him tightly, and then forced herself to get up and say goodnight to her boyfriend who tried to kiss her long and hard but used too much tongue and made her pull away ashamed of the coward she'd become |
