IN MEMORIAM

We let our lives get encased,
stuck in an hourglass ...
trickling time away on us
before we realize it is
almost too late to enjoy
those beaches we should have
played in joy on all along.

So I reflected on our lives.
As my friend went into the ground,
I looked up to the mountains
surrounding us -- covered in snow;
so majestic against the blue sky,
and thought of us on the beach
realizing just how much you mean to me

for we are just two grains of sand washed to the beach by powerful waves and wind -- nestled together by fate -- so lucky to be next to each other in this great abyss.
