Driving By

I drive, windows down, playing Jack Johnson.
From the corner of the street to the red car I inhabit,
our eyes meet and speak politely.
From this not so far away distance, I (appear to) hold my head high.

You see me with pleasant smile and waving hair.
I look like the woman you always want me to be - when we are close up, and the lights are shining upon us both.
From this perfect vantage, I am confident and carefree.
Am I stunning and glorious from my car? Am I clever and witty, cradled in my pleather fortress?

From a distance, but not outside of view, I become coveted. You want me.  My skin is clear and bright; while my eyes look past you. Oh, we are both spectacularly beautiful in our fuzzy lines. So, I suppose I will drive by again. We can think of what could be and I could pretend you love me.
