Adoraphobia

My, aren't we the nervous one; do you feel the butterflies churning within your gut?
Seems you've been stricken with familiar yearnings, though unsure for quite what.
Now this time isn't like the others; you're determined to ignore it until it goes away,
Cupid would have another place to shove those arrows if you could have your say.
Other fools waste their time falling in love as you display a self-aggrandizing grin,
Dealing out insecurity like blackjack dealers to the poor gamblers who never win.

Once bitten, twice shy, though the third time might could prove to be your charm,
No chance you'd ever find out, 'cause one false move and they set off that alarm.
Got no problem telling anyone nearby all the times you've been around the block,
Wearing mistakes like a collage of scar tissue so grotesque they recoil in shock.
Laugh away at better having lost love than not at all; it's but a romanticist's myth,
Little wonder something lasting is evasive; you can't even love anyone you're with.

In the back of your mind, voices from the past caused the freeze within your soul,
But you can't blame this diffidence on anyone else; no, this curse is your control.
To want not is a waste, as opportunities for hearts to shine are precious and few,
And the only way we ever learn what is meant to be is to forge ahead and renew.
So take heart in your adoraphobia; wear it upon your sleeves for everyone to see,
For you'll do so alone as the rest of the us display how happy we are to disagree.
