The Lure

I'd forgotten the lure of my friends and dancing all night,
Led astray by the moment that seems faded far out of sight.
So we dressed to the nines and ventured out upon the scene,
To get on lowdown with the sisters, if you know what I mean.
And wouldn't you know that the Brotha would lay out a dare,
Said that I wouldn't taste brown sugar unless he was there.

But there was something in my mind that forced me to pause,
For I reminded myself that I'd committed to an iron clause.
That if it were ever stated between the two to be as a one,
Any ventures outside the vows would cause all to be undone.
So I took a deep breath and searched for an answer in kind,
Opened my eyes and realized what so easily was left behind.

In wee morning hours the revelers returned to their lives,
Some to temporary companions and others to impatient wives.
Perhaps you're wondering about the challenge I've detailed,
Anxious to learn which side of my conscience had prevailed.
Now, that's a tale for another time, and it's just as well.
Because you will never know whom I will kiss, or ever tell.
