Katrina Goes To The Dance

For some, it was an awkward adolescent gathering; to the rest the social event of the year,
No matter publicity or the future that might lie ahead of them, all of the kids gathered here.
Misfits were uncomfortably decorated in formal attire and the in crowd glittered with refine,
Nowhere but a teen promenade would you see their worlds collide by administrative design.
Dancing, gossip and nervous glances across a room, anxious invitations to sway to and fro,
All save for shy Katrina, sitting off in the far corner, for this the last place she wanted to go.

Festivities continued onward of course, young ones enraptured with music and public affair,
As the eyes of the chaperones eagled in on levels the boys would allow their hands to dare.
Innocence, even if feigned, ruled the evening; sweet nothings became exchanged in haste,
Still wrapped in her frailty, Katrina watched the passages as if her attendance were a waste.
It seemed she would never twirl before her peers, until one caught her by pleasant surprise,
And though her heart raced in fear, she at last had her wish and happy tears filled her eyes.

At last upon the scene to strut her stuff, all bodies cleared from around them to give space,
Not one present could remember this sort of radiance emanate from so anonymous a face.
Extra sparkle came from the center of attention, as Katrina was far more than she seemed,
What happened between dashing partner and his dancing girl surpassed what any dreamed.
When the music ended, Katrina wrapped him in her arms as both faded from collective sight,
Only then did anyone realize that her hero had asked an angel in disguise to dance that night.
