Curse of Eden

The first lovers given perfect nest
Ate fruit from a tree
Forbidden truth and knowledge
What is it we now know?
That which we did not know then
In this ancient Eden
Look from the mountains to the valleys
Bathe in its waters and streams
Pray the rain is not a deluge
Feel the mud beneath your toes
Feel the earth creatures squirm
As they make their way through
Earth made fertile
Watch the flame rush through the forest
The birds take flight for shelter
Cracking the seeds from pods
Dropping into the earth
Taking root to bloom
Does Eden return or is it transformed?
Is it lost forever to us all?
Lay the blame where you find it
Make your judgements on Adam, on Eve
Right and wrong as you know it, find it
Proclaim it!
Do their words offend or wrong you?
Make it known!
Or perhaps it is that two such perfect beings
Were here, loved here, found here
Did the first lovers never feel pain?
Threatened love
Lost love
Love turned sour, painful
Love rediscovered
The search for themselves in love
In ancient caves seeking shelter
Did two bodies in ancient form
Carve their longing upon a wall?
Did they remain as such
For us to rediscover?
Eden return, unlock your gates!
Angels guarding, who can fight you?
Are you guarding our love from ourselves?
Or is the Eden that we seek to return to
Hidden within our very selves
For us to rediscover through a world
That is not Eden at all?
