Through The Decades

Will you remember me?
When you're in your thirties
And your down on bended knee
Proposing to "the one"
Picking out silverware
Planning a life together
And thinking of the days
Present and past
When she asks you who your first love was
Will you remember me?

Will you remember me?
When you're in your forties
Married to your gorgeous woman,
Three beautiful kids,
Who look just like their father,
Big house,
A black BMW,
A dog,
And all the happiness in the world
Will you remember me?

Will you remember me?
When you're in your fifties,
Your wife's hair is graying,
But yours is staying dark,
Your children are in college,
Your spending holidays at the river house,
Driving an SUV
With your dog snoozing in the back,
Listening to oldies on the radio,
Will you remember me?

Will you remember me?
When you're in your sixties,
And your wife's face is sagging,
But still as pretty as ever,
Her hands are calloused,
Your dog has long since died,
You have a cat now,
Your house is full
Of family
And laughter,
You're holding your grand daughter on your lap
And she asks who your first love was,
Will you remember me?

Will you remember me?
When you're in your seventies
And a tear rolls down your cheek
At the funeral of your wife
Who lost her battle with breast cancer
And you look up towards the heavens
Will you remember me?

Will I remember you?
When I'm in my eighties
I'm sitting at the doctor's office
Being diagnosed
Before I slip away
Thinking of the days when I lived
My life
To the fullest
Wondering what I missed out on
Will I remember you?
