TO MISTI, with love

Dear Misti,

I firmly believe that all poets are on an evenkeel with each other. There are those who will write a line and shine at times. But at the right time, the right moment, anyone can manage to pen a memorable line. Any writer can hit a block without inspiration. Finding that line here has been a real treat for me. Pointing out a blossoming poet to old publishers/friends was also something of great satisfaction. The great majority of those folks I pointed budding talent to are now retired or dead ... and I've also been close to both those miserable states of late. I've had a great career in the creative arts. Actually, more than one career in creative and technical, so I am not afraid of being outspoken as a rule. I've come to Blender (originally on a dare) and used works I had/have written and not published elsewhere over a long career. I really care for people, but tend to have the demeanour of a USMC DI when giving orders at my businesses. I can take orders as well as give them, so Blender is a place with simple rules and some order that I enjoy. Like many, I came to Blender to relax, but that mode is unrealistic all the time here. Blender has more passion, therefore, more realism much of the time. On the whole, I like that. Rather than fail to say something (I started this in comments), here 'tis:

Misti~ Every writer needs a "fan" base, and you've created a great one here at Blender. Most all professional writers still practice bouncing their ideas off their peers. So this is a good trait to learn early. While Blender has grown, it has not really changed in that it is still the creation of and managed by Kirk. Change here is in Blender evolving. Sites that don't evolve usually close. It is still your best shot for being seen by one of the best national publications for the creative arts with The New Yorker mag. Whether they make themselves known or not, I am sure other mags and rags and publishing houses scout the Blender for talent. I know some of those who read my submissions here and comment to me personally or elsewhere. There is a desire here by everyone to be accepted as a peer, even "winners" or "picks" or board favorites, but the number of poets has grown too large to all agree or be close buddies. I am amazed at how much consensus there does seem to be here on a regular basis given the diversity of Blender. I enjoy the basic passion here. I write far, far more than just romance. Romance and love are a real stretch for me to produce at times when worrying about things military or political I am actually more involved in much of the time. I have a deep love for all humanity. Hell, no thinking human being wants to be the lonely king of the hill or last man standing. But I try to restrict my comments here to love and romance poetry since I am also very passionate about these other subjects. So, I do understand sushi's rants, tho' more drawn to the tidbits of his In Dream sub and comments ... wondering where the lover and partner is to confide in for this sushi we ding as in-flatuence instead of inflated. Everyone needs love and attention, sushi is no less of these.

For your friend, Gala: I had an extensive amount of time in chat, Lisa, because of illness. Didn't ask for the honor, but got dubbed "Talk City Chatter of the Year 2000", so should have answered your question on the problem chatter stealing your original work as her own online. I also should have answered your questions on (c) since I have been well-versed in it and have been a slacker here in some comments I could answer. I've helped and rep'd a number of writers over the years. Doing it without an agent's percentage gave me far more leeway since my main bread and butter came from other than literary. Illness and the desire to semi-retire have had me back-off and do less since the death of my husband (also a poet and writer, and honored on the internet, btw).

Misti and Lisa~ I'd advise serious new writers to take a look a young writer's website for an example of handling yourself online.  He appreciates his online fans. He is a great example of one who shares and has still managed to get major awards and an international audience: http://www.bahwolf.com . He is also a poet, so I used to tout his work (and others) on a site I had dubbed DRAGONHAIME: The Poets' Refuge. You might recognize Poetry Today Online. They reviewed that website. I got some major awards for that site. I took that site down when too ill to work it. Even though I had that site and a number of others, plus recognition in other online sites, I posted at Blender. I dragged some poets here from those other sites. jackryhme is one of those folks I encouraged to post in chat, and encouraged to come here (Jennifer, he is also it dosent matter et al here). I used to fuss at him on some of his poems, and fall daydreaming in love with the visuals of his others. You mention folks leaving Blender: www.stevehay.com is artdog, and he's gone on to work hard on his creative side. Toklas/medusa has posted on many poetry boards, and was insp
