STONEHENGE

STONEHENGE

And I buried you with clan
and all your earthly treasures
a wall, heavy stone, protecting
only to see the earth removed

like the pyramids and mounds
far around the stones and bones
that shielded you in measures
taken to assure your soul in rest

in eternity -- I should have known
but didn't, what would come
in posterity, even as I also dug
into the life and lines of others

a bone warrior's rattle, gold ring,
things of great joy and precious
now trinket trophies to others
who have no grasp, understanding

but you were once flesh and bone
but you were once
but you were once flesh
but you were once flesh and bone

breathing life and lust into me
there is no rest for quick or dead
only our words and some stones
tell a love story too seldom read
