Heartbreakers and Hellraisers

Fist thundered counter like boots on the dance floor; barkeep, another round!
I spun in my chair to see 'em all two-steppin' to outlaw boogie Waylon sound.
Hats were a-circlin', hips close behind; cowboys and cowgirls on Friday night,
Wanna celebrate Texas-style forget that nine-to-five livin' an' let's do it right.
Band starts in an hour, the evenin's young; we hit a chair and catch a break,
Fire up cigarettes an' decide which lonely heart would make th' best mistake.

Such is the life of country-hearted people, drinkin' and dreamin' by demand,
Strongest backs an' surest souls I ever saw; none better at movin' this land.
Honkytonkin' is a religion, and you can always tell the city slickers hornin' in,
They're the ones wearing rhinestone buckles and mixin' aspirin with their gin.
Cryin' shame we can't do this forever, 'cause there ain't no time to compare,
Even Grandpa's gettin' his groove goin' an' letting down what's left of his hair.

Come time when the lights dim on the promenade and everybody goes home,
Good-timin' goes into mourning side for anyone who's alone where they roam.
Whoopin' and hollerin' lets off steam, but the smoke-filled facades gotta clear,
An' headin' back to your ordinary routine ain't nothin' like how you lived here.
Heartbreakers an' hellraisers make great companions once or twice per week,
But you don't leave with what brought them or want the same thing they seek.
