SPRING PAST BOUNDARIES

SPRING PAST BOUNDARIES

I rose, unlike a rose this morning
like a bare new bulb in spring
pushing up from the darkness
into the light next to you
bathed fresh in morning dew --

I stretched each pale petal wider
to receive the sunshine
and felt the caress from you
admiring as we both unfold
new to this spring time -- behold!

Swaying in fantasia dance to the day
you joined in the warming breeze
until our petals briefly touched
almost ... in a soft kiss of trust
see the color rise in us!

Would you venture to feel us love?
I would if I could -- I'll try
and by and by notice you
are trying as we push higher
then shed petals to become a flyer.
