George Carlin, one of the most popular stand-up comedians in America made fun of people who talk about Saving Planet Earth...George says (not the exact words).... don't talk about saving planet earth.... because it existed before your existence and it will exist after you cease to exist. Instead talk about saving your own ass - because the more you make this planet unworthy of living by bombing, trashing and doing whatever - it's you who the saving has to be dealt with and not the planet. The planet will exist beyond time. The seeds of destruction are laid on the very path of our progress; the kind of progress our leaders want us to believe; that they say is the right thing to do. No amount of education is good enough if it cannot stop someone from doing something that is wrong. This makes me want to believe in a world religion - something called Humanity where everyone is a member of a race called humans and the world is one body, one place, one entity. How can a part of the mother earth bleed and the pain not be felt in some other part of the body? There are many questions in the eyes of the young, who might not enjoy the freedom we have enjoyed - but fewer answers. What am I doing writing about something totally unrelated to what this web site is designed for - it might not be as romantic as looking deep into the eyes of my beloved - but if I can't see the sunrise and the sunset tomorrow - how could I ever write poems appreciating the beauty of someone I love. |
