MORE LESSONS

I want to thank you for the lessons we've learned together. They make it possible for me to appreciate and love you even better. And, for the ability to keep it simple, and focused on each other, even when we know life is not. To me, you are a leader, a real man among men.

I know there was a time when leaders suited-up and lead their men onto the field of battle. Their mounts also had to be strong and steady. Alexander the Great's father gave him the famous war horse called Bocephus. By legend, a fighting horse almost thirty at the time.

Thanks to Alexander, we were given a great library and towns named in his honor with many more legends. Because he desired to conquer much of the known world and bring civilization to it, we know about these places as cradles of civilization or conquests. He died in one such cradle when he was still very young, the age my son would have been now. We bomb that cradle today.

So I think about what these young men had to offer, and where our world stands today in conquests, civilization and in war once again. And, I thank you for letting me vent, rage and accept your hugs once again. You've been to war, suited-up and seen death and destruction and can still hold me tenderly.

I understand much better your passion for life, the need to love while we have the chance. The years have not dimmed our vision, but made it much more clear when to hold something more dear. So we build and plant more passionately in our tiny gardens and plots in the hope that what we do can renew the ravages of storms, wars and bitterness.

Our words to each other renew daily. This spring bulb is set here from me to you, that loveseat is repainted by you. There seems to be love in all we do for each other. Each renewal is our belief that something endures with love. Maybe someone will come along long after we are gone and appreciate what little we managed to save. But does that matter?

What we have is today, in love, in promises to one another. Maybe one day some leader will suit-up and lead others to what we've believed life should be. But in reality, we only have ourselves and then each other. Thank you for giving me that much! We've created our own happiness, and maybe it will be infectious.

We've loved enough to be some example that it can happen no matter what heartache has gone on before. What matters most to us, is us, one day at a time. It is not that we don't care. We care too much, but temper it to keep the world from being too much with us and too little about us.

The last time we checked, the world surrounded us, but didn't go to bed with us. I am going to thank the sun, moon, stars and more for that. Then I am going to spend the rest of my nights finding ways to thank you, my love.

First, we better use Bochepus to drag that huge wooden "gift" horse back outside our gate just to be safe. Oh yes, I'm thankful we've learned some lessons, for each has helped bring us together. I am most grateful we have respect and the ability to talk passionately with each other. I am sure you love me completely.
