Golfing Alone

I went out and played today
Remembering your sweet backswing
You wrote your name on the card that day
But it didn't mean a thing

The tip you gave when last we play
Made longest drives hit fairway
Thanks for that small legacy
It works, wish you'd been there to see

No I don't, our love is over
That fairway overgrown in clover
No more the hands upon the shaft
My golf expense is cut in half

I'll play alone or with new friend
And maybe I will try again
To love and laugh and share again
But right now I can't tell you when

A birdie here, a bogey there
I play much better now
Alone on course we used to share
I'm really happy now

I burned the past in yard you see
I'm living life for me

I'm just a few miles from new friend
The one who called last night
Maybe I'll call her, no she'll send
More words to continue fight
