praises in scattering phrases

these laughing flowers no longer mock
the grief I once felt over you
in this scattering time
with praises in phrases
to once more give you due
in how you drew me
how you slew me
and how you broke me in two
with all we had
and all we didn't
and how I finally grew
past what might have become of us
with better days and better trust
something we once knew
but somehow lost before the frost
in the end I thought too high a cost
when the light went out of your days
forgive me for how I phrase the praise.
