Persistance of Vision

All photographs fade.
Those of the mind are not exempt....

Pervading moisture of night
Coupled by harsh lamp light

And stars sprouting in the sky
Like so many luminous blooms

Your hand in mine
Growing hot and soggy

The unseen drone from the trees
The staggered song of crickets

These are Florida summers
These are Florida nights

Spanish moss leans over the sidewalk
Though we take to the streets

We have no destination in mind
Yet we know where were going

The place were we romped
That night after prom

You still have that scar
From the ant bite

Next time we agreed
A blanket was in order

We walked this way many a time
When 4 walls was too much or not enough

Or when we had wayward thoughts
And it was more than nature we admired

Or when we needed an excuse
An excuse to get wet, get out

Florida nights are not particularly great
Yet I will tell you what is

A new love in a new place
Or, an old spot, a familiar face

I hope in heaven I will be with you
If not send me back here to earth

Because I know in this mind you will fade
So stay with me, replace that which expires

Persistance is but a moment
But I do not mind

As long as we have
Moments on moments
