Why do we hide behind smart ass remarks When certain subjects come up Like actual thoughtful discussion Of how we feel We get nervous, need to bleed a little pressure So we blurt out witty remark, to deflect Pressure is vented on both sides Conversation moves on Until it's time to get really serious The jokes become forced, like rhyme Out of context, misunderstood And the words become inane again The moment is lost |
