May 20, 2003 I'm having a hard time believing that the new house is ours. That WE brought a house. Together. I can't believe that it's brand new and we are the first people to eat in it, sleep in it, shower it in, live in it. Love in it. It still feels like we are staying in someone else's place, or a nice motel or ... or something. I like it. The commute is kinda long, 56mins to the city by limited express train this morning. I don't mind though, I'm getting used to reading on the train, and when I was a single mum my biggest complaint was that I didn't get time to read/stare into space/people watch, now I have nearly 10hrs a week exclusive reading/staring out the window and/or people watching time (great for my paintings). I've set up my easel in it's new home, however I've yet to find the box that has my brushes/paints in it. I do however have a ton of ideas that I want to turn into paintings. I'll put 'find box with brushes/paints' on my urgent list. Yesterday the across the road neighbour (the one with children) came over for coffee while I waited for the cable man and the phone man to show up. She admired all my paintings leaning against the wall and said she loved one that I'd had framed and hung in the lounge until I started to hate it, so it's been leaning on the wall in the back bedroom ever since. She also mentioned she's starting up an ironing service, so I said a painting for ironing swap might be a go (I hate ironing). She seemed excited by the idea, so we'll sort some details out later I think. Then the cable man showed up, and asked a few questions about the paintings, his chin hit the floor when I said I'd done them then we had a long talk about them, he is doing a framing course and was interested in hearing how I'd recommend having the stretched canvas' framed. It was amazing because I've mentioned before I've been shy about showing my paintings off to people 'in real life' I normally hide in the anonyminity (sp?) that the internet provides. It was very affirming. But I'm still very nervous about the competition that I've entered 'Janet' into, I should find out if I've made the gallery cut in the next week or so. . |
