THE SHALLOWS
somewhere on our river we sheared a pin
and got angry
for not having another ...
(my fault -- yours -- whatever!)
nor the urge to dive-in
and replace one so we could move on
who remembers ....
well, what I just remembered
was the fight that ensued -- angry words
and the scary, precarious situation
we were quickly drifting into ...
and how you grabbed me
to shut me up
only by kissing my tears -- shared deep water
brought on a passionate embrace
until you went overboard with a line
one for me,
the other to the boat -- me admiring
watching you with powerful swim
towing us into the shallows
where we later quietly, calmly fixed a boat
