on the night we saw the dead

On the night we saw "the dead"

He was standing outside my work at 5:02. Wearing his khaki shorts, birks, and terrapin station shirt. He looked adorable. There is something inside me that grow hungry when I look at him, that I need to devour him to feel full, and that to have him, just makes me want more. Sometimes I will look at him, and I have this deep yearning to be microscopic, to climb under his skin, and feel around inside of him, to rattle around his brain for a while. Perhaps to feel a muscle or to be an active thought while in him.

Then we ran off to the car, hand in hand, I changed into my summer clothes, and he stood with a sub in his hand, eating away. We were heading for the concert that was a mile or so away. He would slow down for me, when it got to hard on my hip, and he would part his arm over my shoulder. We got there right as Willie nelson came on stage. A crowd of filled with small smoke clouds of marijuana, and cigarettes, the faint smell of patchouli up wind. We both got a beer and meandered down to a grassy spot, and sat. Cloves in one hand, beer in another, we lay down and watched the people and the clouds go by.

There was a scent of musk around us, with the braided and ratted heads of hippies, and ex hippies, and runaways, running to something better. Then there were the suits, with the cell phone attached ear, the trendy clothes and perfectly smoothed lines and white grinning beer soaked teeth. Then t here were the others, just the others, the ones who neither drew attention to themselves, but were there for the music, and the moment.

I think we were the others, the ones who sat and watched as the clouds of music drifted to our ears. We grinned and smiled, and hugged each other, our lips touching when they wanted to. Then it was over, and we surrendered back to the night without sound. We sauntered back to the car, the mile or so away, and felt the warm air across our skin, feather soft. Then we held hands back home, across the stretch of the summer night, and then to the cool relaxation of our bed, curled next to each other's naked body.
