I can't give you forever, For I am a mere mortal, And do not possess it. I can't make your dreams come true, For I am Myself, and not a dream; I cannot compromise my ideals, Nor eliminate my faults. I am confusing and sometimes self-contradictory; I wear no shining armor, And have never once ridden a horse. I can't guarantee I'll never hurt you. I am just another human, And despite how hard I might try, I am certain to make mistakes. I will be selfish at times, and childish at others, As I know you've seen me before. I can't make you happy; You know well no one can create happiness But from within. We both remember days when I seemed to do Everything right, And you were still crying. I will lift you high as you dare, But you must be the one to take up wings If you are ever to fly. And I can't fix all you think is Wrong with you. (Sometimes I can hardly help myself.) Remember too, it is part of who you are, And that is who I love. Without it, you would be someone else. I don't want someone else. Now, that having been said, my dear- Anything and everything else you would ask, All other things your mind could conceive, Down to every little wish that passes So fast it is forgotten Before you can speak it. That, I will do for you. |
