Burning Bridges They say that it is better to Never burn a bridge... You never know when you might need to Cross it again. But as I took out the matches And lit fire to the wood... The embers reminded me Of our beginning: Slow and hot- Engaging to watch... Dangerous to touch Or get in its path... though many had tried to put it out. It raged for years Had a power all it's own The smoke was deadly... as were we. Self destructing... Ruining things in our path... Including our love. So this bridge I burn Is not in selfishness... I do not want to destroy What it links together. I just don't want to Cross it Whenever I feel lonely Or afraid. Sometimes it's best to Burn a bridge... Than to link Two worlds So far apart... Together. |
