The darkness starts at sunset Sending shadows out of hiding To shut out the ruby banners Stretched across the sky These shadows crawl From beneath trees and buildings And tack themselves to the heavens With straight pins we call stars A canopy of night hovers above me Hushing the noise that daylight brought Leaving me to face my own voice Only a deafening silence remains As the beating of a heart echoes Within crimson walls of tender flesh Tempting shadows of my past To begin a sunset of their own |
