The Last Time

I'm looking at the world
You said you wanted--
Drowning out my innocence
With absent regret; life holds no power
Over weakness, and holds no dominion
Over me--I'm forgetting all the rules
Just to kiss the truth.  Heaven sent
And Heaven bent, I walk a line
You've never seen, and it's all
Just a simple matter of eloquence,
Resistance, confidence and strength.
A destiny away and my fear over rid
My tragedies, silenced my wild-eyed wit,
And left me reeling from my belief in you--
Sometimes, goodbye doesn't matter,
But the memories sewn in between
The seams of two lives.  I raged in all my anger,
Set up several layers of false pretence, a talisman
Against my weakness that is founded in you--
Your eyes undo me, and leave me unguarded
Against my own heart, beating, beating, beating
Endlessly as I gauge your hidden smile.  Last time
That we met, there was no happiness to see me,
And I took a while and a wisdom unbeknownst
For me to understand--revolutions and revelations
Are always far from simple, and my smile
Can only haunt and hide so much.  I wonder,
Will you remember me,
When the rest of the world whispers
Of a heart that time forgot?
