The Songs We Sing at Night

Over the static fraught line
Simple syllables pass between
Ones heavy in honey thick and full
This arrow, string attached, flies out
Strikes deep, burrows to the core
Like lightning down a kite, vibrations
Rock the heart of the matter
My heart is the matter
All the mighty forces of the universe
Contend with us. Even the sun
Can only favor, not all, but either
And in the deepest moon split
Nights, harsh sun will crash through.

I think not so much the
Meanings, but the smoky contralto
Of your voice caught up like
The merest night breeze, gently
Lays lids down. And these
Heavy-honey-full exchanges
Are simply instrumentals, some how the
Foolish lyrics are lost over
This static fraught line, static
As unapparent as the crickets
Chirp. Lost in the din of
Thought. Heavy-honey-full song
Rock me to sleep so that
My consciousness, free of flesh may
Defy providence, reject space,
Deny time, to embrace you.
