Love for the sake of convenience-- I never understood that. Staying-- Because you feel like you "have to." There's a violence of opinion Between your heart And your head; you are dreaming differently Each moment you wake. The lies-- The smile that never reaches your eyes, The goodbye kiss each morning, The "I love you" every night-- Those are illusions. Reality is The endless hours you spend at the office, The plans you make, the unnecessary events You say you "have to go to." The reality is me. I am the woman of the lighted shadows, Whispering the dark of your heart--songs Buried but not forgotten, burning Like the frozen morning air. The truth aches As a glass moment screams On the horizon--everything changes, Even "love." There's always a choice, A moment, an earthly recognition; These epiphanies are meant to be heeded. Love should never be kept or tended Simply for the sake of convenience. |
