Contemplating Lessons: SHEWOLF

and as I tried to learn about a wife's life
from psychology, ptsd, your head injury
hiding myself near quiet pond and patio

under the willow, I studied all this strife
and remembering Rau's simple lessons
growl when anxious, worried, on edge

is a smile only pretend in teeth showing
or can real joy be evident in ourselves
in greeting, loving, exposing each shelf

holding books of our life, pages we turn
we yearn in every word, unheard songs
mele nalu, bird in spring, the wolfsongs

Questioning Myself: SHEWOLF

what is the path I've quietly, lightly trod
where will it take me, who will know me
friend or foe seek me, or lesser god

where once I had the power and strength
in myself to question and be so strong
now I find a new changling in me again

is this so wrong, a feeling contemplating
questioning where I've gone and been
as shewolf to albatross, where will it end

will I lift my head to the heavens and...
howl; or lift up on wings, or pretend
something I didn't do as wife or a friend
