Lover's Greed

You spared your time at my expense.  A love affair that made no sense.  A confession of desire turned into obsession, but a lesson conspired in my direction.  Hearts were stolen by lovers' greed, loneliness mistaken for selfish need.  Our first kiss, that one dance.  It was hit or miss, now one last chance.  Opportunity knocked I answered the door.  Racing the clock, I wanted more, of you to myself, never thinking of anyone else.  The clock was ticking, but you weren't sticking to the promises you made. Only took advantage of the time I gave. A new candy bar, as such, had a taste, ate too much.  Tossed the wrapper with pieces inside.  Found a more familiar brand to try.  Opened the wrapper, took a bite.  It poisoned your senses, stole your sight.  The newer one was better, but the old had a comfortable taste.  Scared to try something new you let it go to waste.  Someone else will pick it up to try, they'll realize how good it is & make the choice to buy.  Time is up now, I have to go.  Restart the clock, on with the show.  We made the memories; I'll lock them away.  Maybe I'll even see you someday. Till then, so long, farewell, adieu.
Hope you don't bite off more than you can chew.
