some nights while you are sleeping i miss the misty highways that one moment before the sun rises and you have been driving all night toward an unknown destination. i should have been scared that one night i slept alone in the appalachians, with nothing but a blanket to cover the windows, but instead i breathed in the damp vented air. when i had finally arrived home, my hair standing from layers and days of sweat spent driving through a country i had never before explored. one arm burnt from hanging out the door in chicago traffic on the loop. those days come to me when you roll over for the night, your bare back miles away and your mind silent in sleep. and i remember another this morning on my now routine drive and thought i told him i would do anything. |
