Doing without

I was thinking, "Yeah I can do without."

Scary notion, to realize you never need oxygen. It's always frightening to find necessity not so necessary. Because it's not unpleasant to need something... someone.
Chalk one up to the indomitable human spirit I suppose. It always finds a way to do without.

A person free of needs, desires, an obsession, is rather aimless. How is value weighed if not in desirability? A pariah in the desert will value water so much more than the inhabitant of a rainforest.

Love will never be love the way it was to the virgin schema. It's sad how the economy of the heart is hit by depreciation. We get our hearts with that fresh, new-car smell. When you drive that first love off the lot the air is never again so exhilarating the road never again so inviting. It does not matter that your next car, or your next, may handle better. Or that it's packed with all the gimmicks and go. You will never feel that way again.

It is sad to think that rarely ever is one so diligent to keep their first car. Few have the patience. Few can ignore the temptation of trend, the ease of replacement. Instead most will give up. When the maintenance and repairs outweigh the charm and history they move on.

Perhaps they will be content with that new car, or in some small way manage to forget that initial pure joy of the old one. Though, chances are you never want to/or will forget.
