The night comes so quickly now. Darkness falls before my breath can even catch; my eyelids reaching for each other over the long ride home. I try and listen to NPR, to be the intelligent person I pretend to be. But the dry talk and politics soon find themselves rushing out the window. Its during this moments, the second my foot hits the pavement and the car is put into gear, that I watch my phone and wait for the blue light, indicating that you are starting your ride home too. For some reason my heart feels safe knowing that you will be home, that on these dark and cold nights, when thought comes rushing in too quickly. You are my safe haven waiting for me. |
