Frost, like sugar coated cornflakes crackle and crush, crisp beneath my feet and I walk this lonely street Evergreen, laden with snow, boughs, bend to break beneath the weight, like that which fills my heart Burn, beneath my skin the blood that courses, thundering through my veins, hot, flames devouring logs That burst with shining specks which twinkle like falling stars, tails trail, red ribbons in the night A fire filled drum, vagrants glow subterranean transients' watch flames soar and spark like Christmas tinsel As I pass, another stranger in its light, itinerant myself, wrapped for the cold, shoulders bent in toward myself Memories of younger days, Christmas past replay inside my head recalling now the table light and tangy taste Of Sugar Plums and spicy lines, from my tongue, catch your ear, win the right, snuggle warm against your breast Passing years, words now dead, thoughts that rise should not be said, but from afar I hear your voice Turn and from without, the ephemeral glow of the vagrants light, your silhouette approaches, struggling in its winter coat I wait, as you run and stand before me, looking up into my eyes, bright smile shrouded by your misty breath From the fire, dark eyes look on and watch the show that we put on, for the stars that have seen it all And you whisper, words I bend to hear, you smile and say, "No more Egg Nog for you, not tonight, my dear." |
