ROAD OF PEACE Imroze and Afroze watched the evening news of February 15th,2003 on television and asked me "Uncle ! why did thousands of people gather today in down town Toronto and other major cities all over the world? What were they saying? What were they asking? What were they demanding? Why did you join them?" I smiled and responded, "Dear children ! all these people men and women children and elderly Whites, Blacks and Browns Muslims, Christians and Jews, Hindus, Bahais and Atheists from the First and the Third world gathered today to sing the song of peace. They are all realizing Humanity is at a crossroads today They have to choose between the road of war led by George Bush of America and Tony Blair of England who want to attack Iraq and kill innocent men, women and children to have control of the oil or the road of peace led by Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu and Jesse Jackson Germany, France and Russia to find a peaceful resolution to world conflicts These people who gathered in millions all over the world are singing the song of peace and saying we need to work together and transcend our differences based on race, religion, language and culture and embrace each other so that justice and peace can embrace each other and create a peaceful world We do not want to follow the roads of terror led by Bush and Blair and Osama and Sharon We want to live like a family in harmony all over the world. They are afraid that if Bush and Blair attacked Iraq the way they attacked Afghanistan thousands of children will die They want to prevent war They want to choose the road of Mandela and Tutu and Jackson the road of Germany, France and Russia They want to travel on the road of peace. Dear Imroze and Afroze! My dear children, when all these people gathered today in downtown Toronto in extreme cold weather I joined them too on the road of peace so that our children and grandchildren can grow in a peaceful world." Imroze and Afroze listened to me attentively came over and gave me an affectionate hug. Sohail, Feb 15, 2003 |
